Orthotics

What are Orthotics?

Foot orthotics are inserts or insoles which are worn inside your shoes. The main purpose of orthotic therapy is to adjust the position of your feet to improve foot function and overall biomechanics. Custom orthotics are made specifically to suit your feet.

At Griffith Foot Clinic the process of producing orthotics involves a full comprehensive biomechanical assessment using our video and computerised gait analysis technology. From this, your podiatrist will discuss whether customised orthotics are required. If custom orthotics are required then your feet will have a plaster cast taken, be scanned or a foam impression box done to enable the production of an exact model of your feet. This model will be accompanied with a software design technical prescription to aid the production of the orthotics.

Orthotics are used to treat a range of lower limb problems, such as:

  • Plantar Fasciosis or Heel Pain Syndrome
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Sever’s Disease
  • Bunions
  • Hip, Knee and Back Pain
  • And Much More

Griffith Foot Clinic can provide a variety of types of orthotics to match your lifestyle; these can be soft or firm. Your podiatrist will work with you to decide which orthotic therapy will suit you best. Griffith Foot Clinic uses a company called Footpoint PTY LTD to manufacture its orthotics. FootPoint is a sunshine coast based company that develops orthotics for the AFL Gold Coast Suns and the NRL Titans. They are professional and efficient and provide an excellent product.

Orthotic Modifications and Recovering

Griffith Foot Clinic has a dedicated area that enables your orthotics to be modified or recovered.
If your orthotics are looking tired but are functionally correct, recovering them is a simple way of extending the life of your orthotics.
Modification of orthotics is common and Griffith Foot Clinic can make these minor changes when required.
